An Orb of Winter is unlocked in the Icy Land by collecting 10 Ice Diamonds, in Dry Forest by collecting 10 Fern Flowers, and in Cocytus and in hubs by collecting 10 Ice Sapphires. Collecting 25 Ice Sapphires will also unlock it in R'Lyeh. The Orb of Winter is also one of the basic Orbs in Land of Power.
A Witch Apprentice can collect an Orb of Winter, transforming into a Winter Witch. Defeating any Winter Witch will cause her to drop an Orb of Winter.
Walking through the Icy Land with an Orb of Winter enabled will cause a blocking Ice Wall to be left behind the player. This can also be a danger if the player cuts off paths they need.
The Orb of Winter will protect a player on a burning tile (such as in Dry Forest and Minefield) and allow the player to move out of the fire.
Collecting an Orb of Winter will give you 31 charges. You cannot have more than 77 charges. As long as you have Orb of Winter, blue lines symbolizing cold will be drawn behind you. These lines are also drawn behind Winter Witches.
In Pure Tactics Mode, you will start with 30 charges on Orb of Winter if you play in Land of Power.
151 charges of Orb of Winter is one of the possible prizes for collecting Orb of Yendor.
Effects[]
Orb of Winter is a continuous Orb. As long as it's active, it has the following effects:
- You can safely enter a cell with fire.
- In Icy Land and Cocytus, your heat becomes negative; you will lower the temperature of your cell each turn instead of increasing it. When standing next to Icy Land or Cocytus, you will also reduce the temperature of the neighbouring cell there.
- In Icy Land, any empty space you leave will be converted to an ice wall.
